A chronicle of my adventures as an unemployed 20-something trying to make it in San Francisco.

So Scott and I went ahead and did some halloween shopping today.  We took a trip to Costumes on Haight, and were pleased with the small store’s selection, and general excitement for the holiday.  They are a year-round costume shop, so i guess they must be happy the one time of year they probably make money!  Now i’d tell you what i was shopping for, but that might give away my awesome costume idea!  So be patient, because you’re just going to have to wait to see my Halloween pictures before you know what i’m going to be!

Now, it was while in the costume store, that Scott and I decided to get in the spirit by carving a pumpkin.  A quick stop at our local safeway on our way home, and we were in business.  There was a short discussion as to what type of carving to make.  Scott and I, both realizing we are not artists, decided on a simple, standard, straightforward Jack-o-lantern face.  We were both pleased with the result!  Hopefully you are too!

Please note, I had totally romanticized the idea of carving a jack-o-lantern before actually starting the process.  Upon completion, I realized a couple of things.  First off, it’s difficult, the damn pumpkin is thick, and it’s tiring carving into it.  Second, you get very nervous trying to make the cuts on the face.  This was a simple design, and I was already sweating it out at parts. I don’t know how people do those crazy designs with the shading and all!  And lastly, I realized that up until this point in my life, I think my mom had probably been the one who scraped all the yucky stuff out of the inside of the pumpkin.  Yeah, I did that this time, and yeah, it was yucky!

Happy Halloween!!! Hope you’re all getting excited!

Oh also, one more thing, the night would have been perfect for me, but Scott’s fantasy football team beat me by one point.  Grrrrr….
