Why I Hate the Employment Development Department (EDD)

So unemployment insurance, it’s great right?  I think so.  Friends of mine who are on it think so.  Yeah for everyone. money for when you’re not working.

Yeah, here’s what they don’t tell you.  So you’re supposed to apply online.  There’s phone numbers to call (depending on your language: english, spanish, chinese and vietnamese), but they want you to do it online.  They give you a whole sheet to read of small print about what you need to have handy to do so (gives you a headache, but it’s all there), and then there’s a three question questionnaire.  Have you worked outside of California in the past 18 months is the first, awful question.  Awful because I have worked outside of California in the past 18 months.

What happens when you answer yes to this question??  Well the smart little website directs you to call the office because you need to talk someone. (no website for you).  Okay you say, i’m good on the phone (well not according to my last job) so let’s call one of these guys and get to the nitty gritty with a real person.  I choose the english number (although I thought about the vietnamese one) and was rewarded with a voicemail message saying that too many people were calling right now and no operator was available.  Yeah here’s the trick that EDD doesn’t tell you, there’s never an operator available.  You always get the message and the message always hangs up on you at the end!  There is no person.  If you have worked outside of California in the past 18 months then good luck getting unemployment buddy!

Round 1 goes to EDD.  I’ll let you know how Round 2 goes…

I’m Back!
That’s right fellow readers, as of Thursday February 11th, I am back on the unemployment train!  Turns out Yelp and I had a slight disagreement over whether or not I was actually good at selling advertising.   Yelp says I wasn’t… and well I couldn’t really disagree with them.  So I figured I’d pick up where I left off and once again write about the various adventures I have as a person with waaaaay too much time on his hands!
So enjoy the picture of me at my kick ass 27th Birthday Handgun Range Extravaganza!  Once I get some more pics and video’s sent to me, i’ll be sure to share.  Some future highlights include videos of my friends and I attempting to break our bodies snowboarding in the terrain park at Sugar Bowl… I’m still quite sore from it.
Well everyone, I look forward to sharing my new adventures with you!  It’s great to be back! (sort of)

Scott and Colin Hit Rock Bottom…

So i’ve been watching a lot of the show “Intervention” lately on A&E.  If I’ve learned anything from this show, it’s that people hit rock bottom.  It happens, and when they do, they depend on their loved ones to help them out.  Well, this post might be that call for help, so loved ones if you’re out there…

Now I dont know how it happened, I dont know why it happened, but Scott and I have hit probably the low of our time together… Last night, we made the conscious decision to get KFC for dinner.  Yes, yes I know.  If you drunk it’s one thing, but two sober guys, staying home on thursday night, with no plans, deciding to eat a big bucket of KFC “chicken”.  I’m disappointed in us too…

Well we can’t change the past, we can only try to make better in the future… of course if you ask my digestive system today, i’m pretty sure it’s still living in the past.  For those of you who havn’t had KFC in a while, let me just tell you this… it’s freakin’ delicious.  It really is.  As long as you’re willing to put up with the horrendously sick feeling you get about 15 minutes after eating, then it’s totally worth it.  Now i’ve never done Heroin before, but man if it’s anything like the gratification you get from eating the colonel’s original recipe…

Anyway, enjoy the pictures.  Oh and yes, I guess I failed to mention this earlier, but this KFC just so happens to be one of those KFC/Taco Bell joint places (Damn you Fast Food God’s and your Evil Treachery/Thank you god).  So we felt it only natural to want to top off our KFC with a little side of Taco Bell…

Oh and yes, we both went running that morning in anticipation of eating KFC that night… although I think I could run a Marathon and still probably not feel good about all that I ate…

Enjoy living vicariously through our meal.  Remember, we did this for you…

Well Hello Everyone!

So i’ve been a little lazy this past week, but I dont know why, since so much has happened!!

Well as promised from last week, here is the Halloween post, along with pictures! (oh fyi, so Iphones don’t work that well in the dark, so you kind have to use your imagination on a few of these pics)

Anyway, I finally reveal to you my halloween costume.  I went as “Nightman” as played by Mac on the hit TV show, “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”.  My heterosexual counterpoint Scott went as my archrival “Dayman”.  Now truth be told, for those of you who are fans of the show, you probably think of Dennis’ character playing dayman and wearing a grey spandex suit with maroonish cod piece.  Here’s the thing, at the end of the episode where they perform the rock opera “The Nightman Cometh”, the character Charlie is lowered from the top of the stage on a gigantic sun wearing a bright yellow suit. (spoiler alert here) but he then proclaims his love for the waitress by singing his own song and saying that he, in fact, was the dayman.  So because of that, and because it’s easier to say “dayman” than “charlie wearing a yellow suit at the end of the episode”, Scott went as Dayman.  I think a good analogy for this one is like in power rangers when the old robots get destroyed and then come back as new more powerful ones…yeah, well Scott is the new more powerful Dayman!

Anyways, as you can see from our pictures our costumes were awesome, although if truth be told, Scott looked much better.  While my costume was a simpler black karate gi, coupled with some black face paint, Scott went all out ordering a yellow suit online which he had to get tailored.  He seriously looked awesome.

Funny side note, not everyone got our costumes.  For instance, Scott and I attended the Halloween party of the tutoring center were we both volunteer.  Upon looking at us, all the grade school kids instantly believed Scott to be a “pimp” and me to be a “fat ninja”… my god, kids can be so cruel…

Anyways, after a Friday night spend singing karaoke (no pictures posted… believe me you dont want to see them), we spent our Saturday pre-gaming at our place and watching the Oregon Ducks spank the USC Trojans! We then spent our night at a friends Halloween House Party.  It was a good night.  As you can see, we were joined by a fellow “It’s Always Sunny” character as Scott’s friend Brendan dressed as Greenman.  Now that little Asian fellow in the picture, that’s Scott’s friend James (same person singing with scott in the previous post) dressing as Kenneth from 30 Rock.  His costume was awesome.  We also saw a couple dressed as Taco Bell Tacos!  Super awesome, couples costume and they gave Scott and I free tacos!!  Outside the party, we ran into a pretty hot Mario and Luigi twosome, so that’s always fun to see too!

So all in all, it was a fun Halloween!  I received costume compliments, I didn’t spend that much money, and I got a free Taco!  Hope your Halloweens were just as much fun!

Scott is Famous!

So today, if you happen to visit the website music.myspace.com then scrolled down on the right under “Featured Karaoke Recordings”, you would find the above video proudly displayed.  Yes that’s right folks, Scott and his good buddy James were the featured Karaoke All Stars on one of the most popular music websites on the internet… yes, yes, I do feel famous living with an Internet Sensation… enjoy the video, I assure you, you’ll never look at Ben Fold’s “Brick” the same way again.

Oh and in case you’ve got some time to kill, Scott’s friend James has also posted a whole slew of other video’s under the username “jimmylin”.  Of all his video’s, this one is by far my favorite.  If you’re paying attention, you might just be lucky enough to see Scott make a guest appearance…
